CALL FOR PAPERS
JOURNAL OF NETWORK AND SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
Special Issue on
Policy Based Management of Networks and Services
Policy is increasing being used as the means of support adaptability in
network components, services and applications. The original focus for
policy was the management of Quality of Service within the network but
industry is now focusing on policy related to provisioning of virtual
private networks, management of security and the policy for services
supporting mobility of users in a pervasive computing environment. Policies
are rules governing the choices in behavior of a system. The main
motivation for the recent interest in policy based services, networks and
security systems is to support dynamic adaptability of behavior by changing
policy without recoding or stopping the system. This implies that it should
be possible to dynamically update the policy rules interpreted by
distributed entities to modify their behavior. This special issue will
focus on the practical and theoretical aspects of policy based systems for
management of networks and internet services. Topics of interest for this
special issue include the following:
* Policy frameworks for programmable networks, mobile computing systems,
internet services and peer-to-peer networking
* Policy applied to Quality of Service management and network provisioning
* Policy models for access control, security management and intrusion detection
* Languages and notations for specifying and implementing policy
* Standards for policy based management
* Mechanisms for policy determination
* Methodology for policy refinement, e.g., from service level agreements
and business goals
* Role based management
* Policy impact analysis, conflict detection and resolution
